LEARN TO DANCE
No Dance Experience or Partner Required!
The Bachata dance originated in the Dominican Republic in its association with Bachata music. It is very similar to the Cuban Bolero dance and was popular during the 1960’s.
In the 1990's a new style of Bachata music emerged with less of a focus on the guitar and a more romantic and sensual undertone. With this came the emergence of an evolution of the Bachata dance known as Western or Modern Bachata. Modern Bachata is danced on the simple 4/4 timing and focuses on turn patterns and sensual body movement and isolations that are more in tune with the newer romantic form of the music.
Intro to Bachata is a fun introductory course that will provide the basic framework for this dance. Students will learn the fundamental footwork, turns and body movements to dance comfortably at any event or club. The focus will be on leading and following techniques and basic turn patterns.
Bachata 201 & 202
We offer two variations at the 200 level for Bachata. Bachata 201 & 202 alternate with each session. Students who have completed 201 may either move on to the Level 3 series or take 202 (recommended) and vice versa.
We will build on the basics of Bachata but will place a greater focus on body movement and hip action. Students will learn more complicated turn patterns utilizing a new syncopated step as well as the delayed turn.
Bachata 301, 302 & 303
We offer three classes at the 300 Level of Bachata. One of 301, 302 & 303 will be offered each session and will rotate with every new session.
